Peach Days in Hurricane Utah~Labor Day Weekend 2011~Friday 9/2/11 & Saturday 9/3/11

It's time once again for Peach Days in Hurricane Utah. This event and this year promises to be a fabulous celebration.  Thepeaches theme for Peach Days this year is "A Celebration of our Heritage".  The event will be held on Friday 9/2/11 and Saturday 9/3/11.

I attended the first Peach Days when I moved to St George Utah 14 years ago, and I don't think I've missed one since.  It's a fun event to take the family to and has become a tradition for mine.

There's always plenty of food booths showcasing many different types of cuisine.  In years past, some of the local scout or youth groups have also had food booths to raise money for their organizations.  There's usually at least one booth selling Navajo Tacos, a local favorite!  Don't want a whole Navajo Taco?  How about a piece of Navajo Fry Bread with butter and honey?  One of my neighbors has had a booth at Peach Days for the last couple of years, it's Cindy's Phillipine Cuisine. I can't get enough of her egg rolls... If you happen to stop by her booth, be sure to tell her I sent you.

It wouldn't be Peach Days without booths selling different peach dishes.  You can find dutch oven peach cobbler, peach smoothies, peach preserves and peach ice cream just to name a few. Of course, there's a Peach Cook-Off! You can also purchase cases of locally grown fresh peaches at Peach Days.

Be sure not to miss the annual Peach Days parade, fiddling contest, rodeo, 12K run and Pioneer Corner. There's always local entertainment throughout the event too.

Silent Saturday~Sedona Arizona

I had never really been to Sedona Arizona before....I've always been in too big a hurry to get somewhere else! Well, I decided to stop and spend a few hours in Sedona last weekend. Now I can't wait to go back when I have more time to spend exploring the quaint shops, I want to visit a vortex or two and maybe take in Slide Rock State Park.Sedona ArizonaThis photo was taken from an outdoor cafe in downtown Sedona.  I thought it ws absolutely gorgeous-red rocks, blue sky and puffy white clouds.

Water Canyon near Zion National Park~Back-Country Adventures in Southern Utah

My daughter is an avid back-country enthusiast and takes advantage of all the great state and national parks that are located close to our home in St George Utah.  A couple of weeks ago she and her "posse" did the Water Canyon hike.  Water Canyon is located on BLM land just south of Zion National Park.  Access to the trail is located behind the remote town of Hildale Utah.Water Canyon near Hildale UT

Water Canyon is a narrow canyon that offers a little bit of everything for the outdoor enthusiast...big drops, narrow slots to navigate through, swimming pools to cool off in and even a pothole! Estimated hiking time is approximately 6 hours, it's about 3.3 miles estimated hiking distance.

Decorating Ideas for Your Outdoor Living Space in St George

Decorating Ideas for Your Outdoor Living Space in St. GeorgeWhen living in St. George, Utah, it’s easy to enjoy an outdoor living space all year.  Therefore, I have some decorating ideas that can help you with your outdoor living space.  First, you should realize that to create an extension of your favorite living space, a well designed addition will have an amazing effect on your home.  There’s very little that’s more perfect than a place to entertain family and guests and enjoy nature than your very own outdoor living space.

When you’re on a budget, you can still enjoy an outdoor living space by surrounding yourself with tropical plants, bright colors and even stucco walls.  An oversized umbrella ties the colors togetherand can give guests a place to visit in the shade.  All this can be very budget friendly

When budget is not a big factor, you can divide you outdoor room into different areas to increase usability by creating a kitchen area, a dining spot, and a sitting area for good conversation.  A long decorative table can easily divide the kitchen and sitting area while providing an ideal place for dinning.  The table with break up the area and give you the chance to set the scene you are inspired to.

Structural elements take center stage in an outdoor living space.  A curving wall can be used to dress up your space with bold patterns.  Use printed or floral throw pillows to play off the tropical plants and a striped accent rug that can ground the sitting area.  Don’t forget the lighting.  Illuminate the space with paper lanterns that can be easily changed from season to season.

In the kitchen area, use countertops tiled with limestone in a natural stone color that can be used as a work space or bar area.  Make sure the countertops slope slightly away from the house to allow moisture run off and prevent water from standing.  If the kitchen area does not have overhead protection, you should keep this in mind when selecting your countertops and accessories.  Also, make sure the surface can withstand heat and thaw cycles.

Your outdoor room is an open invitation for guests to relax and enjoy all your amenities from comfortable seating, the grill/kitchen area and the dining table while giving your guests plenty of room to move around and to enjoy the cozy feel, the plants and your lovely décor.
