The Southern Utah outdoor fun is nearly endless. You name it, you will most likely find it here. Likewise, history lovers also enjoy this area due to the deep seeded history here. In 1854, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints established an Indian mission in Santa Clara, two miles northwest of present-day St. George, UT. The church set up experimental farms in the St. George Valley in 1857 and called 309 families to establish the Cotton Mission. After the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861, LDS Church President Brigham Young decided to grow cotton. Therefore, many families were assigned to settle in the area who possessed the necessary skills to grow cotton. The community St. George was born and the entire region became known as Utah’s Dixie.

The history doesn’t stop there. There are plenty of art museums and other types of museums for indoor enjoyment where you can learn even more history about the area. However, outdoors is where the fun really is. You can enjoy easy daytrips to fulfill your passion for exploration too. There is nearby Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon North Rim, Bryce Canyon Nation Park, Lake Powel, Quail Lake Reservoir, Sand Hollow, Tonaquint Park and more parks to enjoy.
