4th of July in St George UtahKONY Country 99.9 radio station and its parent company Canyon Media have worked in conjunction with the city of St. George to put on 4th of July celebrations over the past 33 years. This year, residents and visitors alike are invited to enjoy the “4 on the 4th” four-hour-long celebration which begin at 6 p.m. on KONY 99.9 FM and will feature commercial-free patriotic music, alongside inspirational quotes and messages from the community.

Canyon Media General Manager, Ben Lindquist, told St George News “This still is a great country, and we want to recognize those people that came before us and put on a show with narration and choreography that will remember a great nation,” Lindquist said. “It’s kind of the classic example of trying to turn lemons into lemonade.”

The show is presented in partnership with the city of St. George, along with sponsors Dixie State University, Intermountain Dixie Regional Medical Center, Ken Garff St. George Ford, Andrus Transportation and the Lifetime Store. Listeners can tune in online at 99.9KONY, on iPhone or Android apps and smart speakers, or on the radio at 99.9 FM.

The “4 on the 4th” radio show precludes the largest fireworks display ever put on in St George’s history, over 150 years!!  The fireworks will be launched from on top of the old airport location, at “Tech Ridge” for everyone to view.  Because the fireworks are being launched from Tech Ridge, they are able to use 10 inch shells instead of the 5 inch shells which were used last year.  That means the fireworks should be twice as big as last years display!

Fireworks will begin being launched a 10 pm on Saturday, July 4, 2020 and should be finished around 10:30 pm.  The show will be choreographed to music on Kony 99,9 radio station and the music will continue afterward for viewers to enjoy on their drive home.

Some good locations for viewing the fireworks this year are downtown St. George at Vernon Worthen Park.Common Sense Family Dentistry parking lot, the Pioneer Park / Sugarloaf area and St. James Park.
