July 24th Events in St George Utah 2014 | Pioneer Day Events in Dixie

Pioneer Day celebrations in Dixie  are an annual tradition for southern Utah families! City of St George Utah

What is Pioneer Day?  It is the official holiday each year commemorating the arrival of Brigham Young and a small group of Mormon pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847.  Brigham Young declared “This is the Place!”  and the pioneers followed.

July 24th is an extra holiday for most Utahn’s and is celebrated similar to the 4th of July with parades, rodeos, fireworks and other festivities.  This holiday is not only for LDS church members, but a celebration for everyone, regardless of faith or nationality, who emigrated to the Salt Lake Valley during the Pioneer era.

The City of St George does not sponsor any activities this day but encourages residents to visit and participate in the celebrations held in neighboring communities.
