St. George UT Spooky Town Fair

Spooky Town Fair Halloween Festival in St. George UT

The St. George Spooky Town Fair kicks off next Friday, October 23, 2015 and will continue through Saturday the 24th. Offering a fun, affordable weekend activity for families, the Spooky Town Fair offers a variety of vendors, games and live entertainment. All of the profit from the Spooky Town Fair will go to support the Washington County School District Foundation.

This is the fourth annual Spooky Town Fair. The fair offers fun activities for families as well as to help raise money for the teacher and classroom grants fund operated by the foundation. It’s a great fundraiser, but it’s also great fun and a way for the kids to celebrate Halloween adventures. There will be tons of vendor booths, craft booths and carnival games.”

Tickets for the carnival games are very inexpensive and based on last year’s festival they should be approximately  $1 apiece.  This makes the festival affordable for families and is the primary revenue source from the fundraiser. I couldn’t find any figures for last years event, but in 2013 the event raised around $40,000 combined with several other fundraisers. This was enough money to be able to accommodate most teacher grant requests in the school district. All too often, teachers have to spend their own money to buy things for the classroom, so the organization wants to do this to help give teachers money so they don’t have to us their own.

In addition to the games and entertainment, local restaurants and food vendors are selling food at the event, organized by the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce, which is in its second year of partnering with the foundation for Spooky Town. A new addition to the festival this year is The St. George Book Festival. They are excited to welcome this new edition to the festival and all that they have to offer.

For nearly five years prior, the chamber did its own business expo each year, but that was dropped in favor of partnering with the school district foundation for Spooky Town. They wanted to have more community involvement and this is a good way for the chamber members to support the foundation and the community.   It’s also a good way for the community to come and support by patronizing the food vendors and participating in the fun. There’s truly something for everyone.

Over the last 3 years, the two-day event has seen attendance between 7,000 and 10,000 visitors and the organizers hope to continue that trend this year.
