St. George UT Food Bank First Ever 5K Race
The St. George UT Food Bank will be hosting their first ever 5K race in St. George UT in September. The race will be called “H.A.M. It Up Against Hunger Race” and will be part of Utah’s statewide efforts to celebrate national Hunger Action Month.
The St. George UT Food Bank hopes to increase awareness about the ongoing hunger issue around the state through the race. Southern Utah is the perfect place to help bring this attention because of the wonderful work they are doing at the Southern Distribution Center. The family-friendly St. George UT Food Bank 5K will begin and end at the Utah Food Bank Southern Distribution Center, located at 4416 S. River Road in St. George UT.
You can register online until September 10, 2015. There will be no registration available at the event so register quickly before time runs out. Registration fees will be $20 per person with a group discount of $5.00 for groups of five or more members. You can also pick up a registration packet in person on September 11, 2015 at the race location; 4416 S. River Road in St. George UT. However, there will be a $5 per person increase for this option. Currently, there are over 36,000 Southern Utah residents who don’t know where their next meal will come from, 15,000 of those will be children. Therefore, the importance of the Utah Food Bank Southern Distribution Center is at the forefront of the long time fight against hunger. Every entry fee dollar and sponsorship dollar raised will go directly to the St. George UT Food Bank’s work in Southern Utah.

The Utah Food Bank provides food on a statewide level through networks of 134 emergency food pantries and agencies. Last year, the St. George UT Food Bank provided over 37 million pounds of food and goods and nearly 31 million meals to families and individuals who were in need. The food bank also served close to 240,000 Kids Café meals, filled over 60,000 kid’s backpacks and delivered nearly 41,000 food boxes to help keep children from facing hunger on the weekends when school is not in secession.
