About Ivins

The city of Ivins is located in southwestern Utah within the borders of Washington County. Ivins is a bedroom/suburb community of the city of St. George. Residents love Ivins because it is a family-friendly community with many things to do just 9 miles from the larger city of St. George.

Ivins HistoryIvins History

Ivins has a rich history beginning with the Paiute people, today the Shivwits Band of Paiutes reservation is just west of the city. Ivins was also inhabited by Mormon settlers in its first days. The city began when several men fulfilled a dream to bring water to the Santa Clara bench. The work was completed in 1914 and the Ivins Reservoir was built to store the water and finished in 1918. The families that were sent and agreed to set up the water system and town decided they wanted the town to be renamed Ivins after Mormon Apostle Anthony W. Ivins instead of continuing to call it Santa Clara Bench.

Today Ivins is continuing to grow especially in the last few recent years. As of 2018, the estimated population of Ivins was about 8,913. It is no longer a sleepy farming community but is blossoming into a bedroom community of St. George as well as a resort town because of its surrounding natural beauty and abundant outdoor recreational activities.
