Home Selling Tips: The Importance of Curb Appeal

Curb appeal is one of the most important features of your home to get potential home buyers inside to view the rest of your home. As buyers drive up to your home, the outside appeal is what determines whether they will continue to tour the entire property or not. Homes are definitely judged by their cover, so if you ignore the exterior of your home, it lessens your selling chances. You want beautiful curb appeal that will bring in more buyers and add instant value to your home. Therefore, I have some curb appeal tips that are perfect for any property type and value. It’s home buying season, so don’t delay on these curb appeal tips.

Curb appeal tips:

Exterior Facelift – Some common ways to give the exterior of your home a facelift include:

  • New siding
  • Fresh paint – using neutral colors
  • New or painted trim
  • Paint or stain the porch
  • Paint the garage
  • Power wash the exterior of the home
  • New windows
  • New gutters
  • New shutters
  • Spruce up the landscaping

You don’t have to do everything on this list. You will find that some items are more important to your home sale than others. Therefore, use your best judgment and do what you can afford to do

Driveway Improvement – If your current driveway is like so many others that need a little tender loving care, you should consider revamping it. If you see grass and weeds sprouting up through the cracks, you can use weed and grass killer to kill it off. And, if you have large cracks, you can have them easily repaired by a professional or you can do-it-yourself with supplies from your local home goods store. If your driveway is gravel, you should get a new layer put down to freshen up the look. A good power washing will also go a long way in making it look better.

A Focal Point – Make your home really stand out by creating a focal point. This is a trick other home sellers are not using too often. If you have a porch, you can use it to create a wonderful focal point by painting it and placing some flowerpots around it. If you have a flower beds, you can use stone statues to make them stand out more. Any focal point you can create will help improve the sale of your home.
