Gunlock Reservoir in the St George Utah area is exhibiting it’s spectacular beauty right now. As the reservoir was built, the engineers decided to use the natural rock as it’s spillway. When the lake is full, the water splashes over the sun drenched red rocks making it’s way into the Santa Clara River.
I’m ashamed to admit, I’ve lived in St George Utah more than 14 years and I’ve never made the trip to Gunlock to view this fabulous scene. Apparently it only lasts a few weeks, until the water in the lake recedes. My husband talked me into taking the 30 minute drive with him a couple of days ago and I’m so glad that I did! It take a little bit of hiking to get this vantage point, but it is certainly worth it. The view from the road is beautiful too, but I wanted a closer look.
Who would have thought we’d have this magnificent display of waterfalls right here in the desert of St George? The trick is, you have to catch it while you can. In a few short days or weeks it will be over with for another year. I highly recommend taking the drive and exploring this natural wonder for yourself. Be sure to wear some walking shoes, and clothes that you don’t mind getting a little wet.
